I think it depends how the person is regarded as 'tmau' in terms of severity

I think the medical system would regard 'severe' cases as those with 'severe' genetic tmau (i.e. tmao %'s that were very low, for instance having 2 nonsense mutations). This group are probably small, but I am guessing they are more than estimated.

You could argue that someone with TMAU2 with very high TMA levels could be a 'severe' case, but in THEORY this group are supposed to be 'curable' (I am not sure if it'sthat simple. I have a feeling there may be a genetic aspect to TMAU2 cases, and that true 'normals' probably can't get a TMA situation)

My impression is that most of us are probably 'intermittent', either due to 'mild' genetic tmau or TMAU2 or a combination of both. I have a feeling this group could be a sizeable amount. A random emotive guess would be 1% of the population. I think it's certainly far more that the few expert estimates that have been made.

It's a pity as a group we cannot make the public aware of our numbers as it would probably lead to therapies quicker.
