Embarrassing Bodies

Postby Emily » Thu Jul 24, 2014 8:58 pm

All,

Tonight's Embarrassing Bodies programme documented a girl diagnosed with TMAU. Although they didn't go into loads of info about treatment it goes someway to raising the awareness of our disorder.

I see now it was a new case.

It's interesting cos the lady thought she had BV but the studio Dr and the gynecologist at Birmingham Priory Hospital (Dr Toozs-Hobson) was aware of TMAU and since she was negative for her swabs he ordered the Sheffield TMAU urine test for her. Her TMA level was around 26, which is over the normal limit of <10.9 that Sheffield use (this may be quite a conservative upper normal limit compared to other labs).

My impression is that they think she has TMAU2 and they seem to expect if she keeps the TMA level down she will be 'normal'. She is 26 and had the complaint for 9 years.
