DNA TESTING HELP

Postby Sophie1999 » Sun Jun 04, 2017 1:49 pm

Hi guys,

Has anyone been genetically tested for tmau? I have had 2 negative results back from the GP but want to confirm this diagnosis with a genetic test. I have found these two sites which do the testing, has anyone ordered from them before?

https://www.genomed.pl/index.php/geneti ... der-a-test

https://www.preventiongenetics.com/test ... +FMO3+Gene

I'm willing to pay whatever, I just need some piece of mind! Thanks in advance! X

Hi Sophie

one thing about the test, it still might not show anything.
its only good for showing 'faults' in the coding part.

but people can have faults in other parts (introns ... junk part, promoter region) which wont show up.
so it still gives 'false negatives'

that said, I can understand anyone wanting to test.
with results you definitely want to know any variants, not just the ones they deem 'important'.

maybe other ways to test fmo3 would be :
via a private dr in Uk (ordering test from Sheffield).
via an exome test (not sure what the market is atm. I tested through one but they closed recently (they sold out)).
exome might be around $500.

problem is dna testing is sort of 'underground'. so hard to find suppliers

Hi poetfire, thanks for your reply! If I asked to be tested by Sheffield, would they test all parts or just faults in the coding part? I'll have a look at exome testing too!

I don't know whether I will be able to be referred to Sheffield as I've been seen by two practitioners and done urine tests at each, both of which have come back negative so my GP might be reluctant.. getting so sick and tired of not knowing what's going on, I just want a definitive answer. :(

re Sheffield you would probably need to go private ...
private GP (pay them) >>> to order the Sheff DNA test (price = test + Dr fee)

DNA results for a Gene :
coding part (532 codons for FMO3) + promoter region + junk part + other parts.
But labs only test coding part currently.
You can have a perfect coding part but a fault in the junk part and this can effect FMO3.

Ways labs give coding part results :
1. interpretation of 532 only (highlighting 'variants' they think important)
2. being told of all variants (in 532).

Sheff and most labs do #1.
In most cases this is probably enough, but not always (e.g. in future other variants might be accepted as possible trouble)

Main problem is the 'health system' rules make us unable to access DNA testing easily.
I dont know of any exome tester currently.
