Correct GP Referral and wait time

Postby cookie1 » Sun Nov 30, 2014 5:32 pm

I have finally plucked up the courage to go to my GP. I printed off the info on this site for them and they agreed to refer me to my local hospital for testing.

I have been referred to a Consultant in Chemical Pathology (Lipids). Does anyone know if this is the correct department? The letter talks about cholesterol testing! From reading the forum others have seen Metabolic Consultants.

Also how long have people had to wait for a first appointment? (Mine is 3 months)

Thanks

Hi,

Just check with the others, but I'm sure it was sent to Sheffield for testing, Dr. Manning?

I would say it's more likely suitable to see a 'metabolic consultant'. Maybe the 'lipids' dept might send for the test. In the end all that matters is that someone contacts Sheffield to ask for the test as Sheffield are the only testers. Even your GP could order the test.

You could try contacting Sheffield for advice maybe ?

I think one problem with doing the test via NHS is that Sheffield dont supply a kit and expect the GP/person to do all the kit right themselves (including adding HCL for preservation etc).

You could also order the test direct from this site for £184

http://www.smartnutrition.co.uk/health- ... -syndrome/

They provide a kit (via biolab) and it's tested at Sheffield.
