Dr Dolphin was part of the team who first demonstrated that mutations in the FMO3 gene are the cause of the inherited (primary form) of TMAU.

In his interview on the BBOH blog, Nigel Manning speculated that shewanella baltica could be a suspect, and that it is known to produce hydrogen sulfide too.

I was wondering if the same culprit blamed for bacterial vaginosis may be a suspect: gardnerella

In the end the best solution would be a study as suggested by Dr Dolphin
