Lentils and Pearl Barley

Postby Maisie » Wed Dec 22, 2010 11:56 am

Does anyone know if red lentils contain choline and if so how much? Pearly barley, which I'm about to put in a soup, has 10.6mg choline per 28mg (1oz) but red lentils (I could only find pink on the linked site but presume they're the same thing!) doesn't give any value in the choline section. As we need to eat some choline to survive, I reckon I'll be ok with 28mg of barley but not sure about the lentils.

Help!!!

Dont know about the choline but the lentils might cause an odour all on their own, without TMAU

 chickpeas had that effect on me recently, tho they were on Lisas ok list. Charcol might have helped.
How did you get on with the lentils Maisie? K

My one ounce of lentils was split between three bowls of soup and didn't seem to have any bad effects!

Don't know about the choline content of lentils but they are a pulse and are therefore probably high in trimethylamine. But small amounts might be okay. YOur soup sounds nice :-)

Hi Ellie

Yes the soup is nice even without any onions or garlic to give it flavour. Unfortunately last time I made it I put too much pepper in so I was glad when I'd finished it! It freezes well too in individual portions.
