Oils

Postby kittycat » Wed Oct 06, 2010 12:08 pm

Does anyone know any oils that are low in choline, apart from olive oil? Particularly anything rich in omega 3, which is essential for health. The only alternative seems to be kelp (seaweed) does anyone know if that's high choline?
I'm having to take flax oil for aching joints on the assumption it'll be lower choline than glucosomine (green lipped mussel extract) but it's a no no for tmau. Kx :?

Sorry I do not know about oils.
Butter is ok in moderation. Also it is healthly as advised by Nutritional Therapist, even if you are lactose intolerent a bit of butter is ok (better than margarine with chemicals etc).

Sorry I do not think Marmite is good for us as contains yeast.

Marmite, vegemite, bovril, all no-no's. :( . I have list of oils we can use on my diet sheet from Dr. L, my mum has got them atm, but when I get them back, I will post on here which ones.

hmmmmm sunflower is interesting. I read that rapeseed is sometimes labelled as sunflower oil but maybe thats wrong. Its good news if its low choline :)

EDIT : maybe it was veg oil that is sometimes rapeseed oil???

Thanks for doing all the posts Lisa, it must have taken ages with one finger :) Quite made me lose interest in X Factor!
It's interesting to look up these oils, some have downsides healthwise. Too much omega 6 ratio to omega 3. Canola is derived from rapeseed so must lose it's choline along the way. Might be GM'd though for those who worry. I also found that winter squash has fair amounts of omega 3, on a vege site. Kx
