Citric Acid

Hi Folks,

Back again with something I am currently trying.

Here is the science =>

It is widely known that weak acids neutralise weak bases. It is actually taught in A level chemistry. Evidence? => ... acid-that/

This is showing Trimethlyamine and Citric Acid creating the salt Trimethlyammonium. Trimethylammonium is odourless.

I wanted a more scientific answer to this, so went digging into the research and came across this paper => ... 8X96805873

It proposes a method to removing Hydrogen Sulfide and Trimethylamine in one single solution. The solution is a bacteria suspended in a Sodium Citrate (Trisodium Citrate) buffer.

On the subject of the removal of Trimethylamine, the paper states the following =>

"Organic acids absorb nitrogen containing compounds such as Trimethylamine because the carboxyl group in the organic acid neutralizes the amino group in the nitrogen containing compound"

The absorption of trimethylamine in the citrate buffer is tested over several different pH's. They determine that at pH 2, almost 100% of the TMA is absorbed. At Ph 3, 90%. At pH 4, 80%. Please see the paper for the relevant graphs.

Usually when creating a citrate buffer, citric acid and trisodium citrate are mixed in proportions and quantities for the required pH. Citric acid has a pH of around 2.2, trisodium citrate a pH of around 6.

Has anyone actually tried increasing their intake of organic acids or citric acid/trisodium citrate?

At the moment I am gradually increasing my intake to see if I can discern a noticeable difference.

I am purchasing a don simon 'squeezed lime and lemon' 1.5 ltr drink ( ... 0001626124) and slowly increasing the citric acid content with pure food grade citric acid using a chemistry spatula, making sure not to damage the enamel on my teeth. It actually doesn't taste any different, although the added citric acid is still in small quantities.

Has anyone tried this?

Hey, I've seen a few post of people saying that lemon juice or lime helped. Has this helped you by any chance? Also does you'r odor also manifest itself through breath?
